Lao Lum – Khmu and Hmong cultural encounter in 1 Go!

The newly established “Culture Home Stay Project” is one of our Fair Trek projects which benefits local communities and gives you a truly unique & memorable experience while being hosted in this genuine community.

YOU can help make a difference in the lives of Lao Lum, Khmu & Hmong villagers while sharing their everyday life on a tour, visit or even a VolunTourism activity that we can set up for individuals and groups.

The ‘Home Stay’ experience is a unique opportunity to work hand-in-hand with local villagers and learn about their culture and way of life. The ‘Culture Home Stay Project’ is an initiative from Tiger Trail, but entirely owned by the community, which can benefit from all income and donations made by YOU!

An example 2-day Itinerary:

Day One: Nong Khiaw – The village experience (L/D)

9:00 a.m. After breakfast, departure from Nong Khiaw by Tuk-Tuk starting your Lao adventure, then trek to the village through Lao landscapes, about 2 hrs passing rice paddy fields and tropical forests. Get your camera ready! The scenery is breathtaking…

12:00 p.m. Arrive to the village. Settle into one of the villagers home. Enjoy locally grown Lao food for lunch and relax at the Lodge revealing spectacular views of rice paddy fields in this isolated valley.

1:30 p.m. Orientation and visit the village area. Then around 2:30 p.m. you will start to participate in the chosen village activities (depending on the season and villagers’ activities conducted by each family and facilitated by our English speaking guide)

5:00 p.m. Free time to explore surrounding areas… or enjoy a bath in the close by natural spring!

6:00 p.m. Prepare local food for dinner with your host family and learn about their diverse Lao cuisine. Lao cooking uses a great variety of vegetables and spices which you may learn more about.

7:30 p.m. Enjoy welcome ceremony – the so called Baci ceremony, followed by dinner with your host family. After dinner, the villagers gather around and perform traditional music with their homemade instruments! Then have a chat with the chief of the village about history, life style and future developments of the village, as well as enjoy storytelling…

9:00 p.m. Back to your home stay for the evening…sleep well and enjoy your stay in this unique environment

Day Two: Culture Home Stay Project, The village hike – Nong Khiaw (B/L)

6:30 a.m. Morning chores! Welcome the new day with fresh air and hazy morning

7:30 a.m. Breakfast with your host family, brief information of the day’s activities

8:30 a.m. Participate to the chosen activity of the villagers’ lives

12:00 p.m. Enjoy lunch with your host family

1:00 p.m. Free time or handicraft shopping…

2:30 p.m. Return to Nong Khiaw by Trek or extend your hiking tour to another home stay activity (2-3 hours trekking to the multi-ethnic village of Payong)

5:00 p.m. Arrive Nong Khiaw (or Payong)

Extendable program: Culture Home Stay Project – Payong – Nong Khiaw

8:00 a.m. Breakfast with your host family, try to sleep in…

9:00 a.m. Walk 1½ hours from Payong to Nam Ou river, village and waterfall visits with some more hiking on other side of the Nam Ou river. Return in the afternoon to Nong Khiaw

5:00 p.m. Arrival in Nong Khiaw
