Nong Khiaw on Nam Ou

Nong Khiaw project area, the beauty of the North, along the Nam Ou river

The little town of Nong Khiaw, on the banks of the beautiful Nam Ou River is the new destination for the “FairTrek” View from Nong Khiaw mountain, trekking in Laosinitiative! The magnificent sceneries of nature make Nong Khiaw a hidden gem of northern Laos. Just 3-hour drive up north from Luang Prabang, Nong Khiaw impresses every visitor with its backdrop of imposing Limestone Mountains, the truly picturesque Nam Ou river views and a great variety of activities in nature. There is the massif called “Pha Nangnon” – “Mountain of the sleeping woman” with 1564m the highest peak in the region, or several caves around Nong Khiaw, used as a shelter during the Second Indochina War to be explored.

Nong Khiaw is the perfect hide away from the world and resembles a place in paradise along the Nam Ou river with stunning views into the surrounding mountain world.  If you have a few days to spare and want to get out of Luang Prabang to take a more in-depth exploration of the north, Nong Khiaw is a good start.

Fair Trek has established a great selection of adventure tours in Nong Khiaw since 2008 and works with  local guides and authorities to ensure the endeavors for a fairly distributed income through tourism into the partner communities.

One of the most exciting tours in Nong Khiaw is the 100 Waterfalls Trek which Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures has discovered recently. Before, no visitors have ever visited that natural waterfall environment…and it is true, it’s really a hundred waterfalls to explore.
